Katha: Stories in Indian Dance

Touring Performance • Dance

Through enchanting performances of a vast array of styles from classical to Bollywood, three dancers illuminate how storytelling and movement are seamlessly intertwined in the traditions of Indian dance.

Audiences will “travel” across India’s landscape beginning in South India with the classical dance forms of Bharatanatyam, including descriptions of the roots, culture, and languages; moving to North India to showcase Kathak as well as various folk dance styles ranging from Bhangra (in Punjab), Garba / Raas (in Gujurat), and Kolattam (in Tamil Nadu). Audiences will be invited on stage to try out different dance sequences featuring footwork and storytelling aspects of these classical dance forms.
