Eric Delli Bovi to advise Arts Education Council

Members of Americans for the Arts, the leading organization for advancing the arts and arts education in America, have elected Eric Delli Bovi as a member of their advisory council for Arts Education. Mr. Delli Bovi will advise Americans for the Arts’ staff on developing programs and services that will build a deeper connection to the field and the network membership.

Through the Arts Education Council, Mr. Delli Bovi will work with fellow arts leaders to select the Arts Education Leadership Award recipient, and participate in and support network-specific programs such as Arts in Education Week, Keep the Arts in Public Schools, and more.

Eric Delli Bovi joined Urban Gateways in 2012. Under his leadership, the organization increased both youth participation and instructional time by over 50% within one year. Urban Gateways is now a strategic partner for the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities’ Turnaround Arts initiative. Prior to joining Urban Gateways, Mr. Delli Bovi spent 12 years at the Old Town School of Folk Music, serving as interim executive director, director of external affairs, director of education outreach, and percussion faculty member over the course of his tenure. In 2010, Mr. Delli Bovi earned a prestigious fellowship from The Chicago Community Trust to explore new models in arts education, and he was elected to the Emerging Leaders Council for Americans for the Arts in 2005 to assist in the development of new community arts leaders.

“The success of our organization is dependent on leaders in the arts and culture industries, such as Eric Delli Bovi, who are willing to dedicate their time and expertise to work with peers across our country to shape national programs and messages and help craft services for states, communities and local organizations,” said Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts. “We are grateful for Mr. Delli Bovi’s dedication to promoting and cultivating arts and arts education nationwide.”

Potential council members were nominated in October and voted on by members of Americans for the Arts through November 12. Mr. Delli Bovi will serve a three-year term, from Jan. 1, 2015 to Dec. 31, 2017.

“I am truly honored and thrilled to represent Urban Gateways and Chicago during this critical time for making arts education a priority in our schools and communities,” Mr. Delli Bovi said. “Americans for the Arts has always served as an incredible resource for the field and for my own professional development, and I look forward to continuing the dialogue for advancing arts education in our society.”
