MacArthur Fellow discovered ragtime through Urban Gateways

We’re going to go ahead and toot our own horn here: One of our primary goals is to inspire Chicago students with the realization that they themselves can be artists, and a Chicago Tribune article this morning showcased exactly that kind of story. Reginald R. Robinson, a ragtime composer who received a MacArthur Fellowship for musical innovation in 2004, will be performing January 17 in the Musica Viva Concert Series at Joliet’s Fine Arts Theatre; it all began when he saw an Urban Gateways touring performance as a seventh grader.
