Former Urban Gateways Artists Celebrate International Women’s Day

Painter and activist Peggy Lipschutz and Chicago folk musician Rebecca Armstrong first teamed up in 1978 as touring artists with Urban Gateways, performing a show called “Songs You Can See.” For International Women’s Day 2019, they were together again at the Block Museum of Art for a talk titled “The Arts as Tools of Social Change” hosted by the Women’s Center at Northwestern University. Armstrong interviewed Lipschutz about her eight decades of making art that challenges ideas about racism, sexism, politics, health, justice, and meaning to create a more just and inclusive world. We love how this Urban Gateways connection has continued to unfold in meaningful ways!
