Night Out in the Parks: Energia – Roots of Latin Jazz

July 11, 2016 @ 5:45 pm - 6:25 pm

Donahue Park

Embark on a musical journey that explores how vibrant rhythms of Latin America combined with American jazz to create the lively genre of Latin jazz. Five of Chicago’s most exciting musicians from Contrabanda will trace the roots of jazz music, from traditional African songs to American jazz and rock ‘n roll. Experience how Latin American influences changed the face of jazz and built in layers of rhythms and sounds, creating exciting new melodies and harmonies.

This FREE show is presented in partnership with the Chicago Park District as part of its Night Out in the Parks program. All Night Out in the Parks performances are family-friendly, free, open to the public, and will take place outdoors (weather permitting).
