Celebrating Special Kids Making Art

Teaching artist Judy Petaque recently spent eight weeks working with 1st and 2nd grade students with Autism and Attention Deficit Disorders at Daniel C. Beard Elementary School. This is just downright adorable, and inspiring, and so great (see the evidence in the slideshow below, from a scrapbook Judy made to document the experience).

Judy didn’t want to place too many restrictions on the students, and wanted them to feel free to create and express themselves to the very best of their ability. With the help of their great teachers, the kids ended up creating some pretty amazing projects, such as painted masks, murals, instruments and imaginary clay creatures, just to name a few.

Just look at these smiling faces!
