Spotlight on Megan Smith, 60th Anniversary Intern

Edit as of March 4, 2021: Megan is staying on as our Video Production Editor through 2021 to continue supporting 60th Anniversary projects and events! We’re thrilled that she will remain part of our team!

Our 60th Anniversary is well underway and we wanted to take a moment to shine the spotlight on a critical member of the team working on 60th Anniversary events and activities: Megan Smith, pictured below, started as our 60th Anniversary Video Production Intern in November and is wrapping up her gig at the end of February. She has truly brought our 2021 virtual events to life, so we wanted to introduce her!

Megan received her B.A. in Digital Video Production at Ball State University and is currently pursuing her M.F.A. at Governors State University in Independent Filmmaking and Digital Imaging. At GSU, Megan works as a Production Assistant in the Department for Digital Learning and Media Design; production credits include promotional videos for Global Brigades/Study Abroad and GSU as well as various roles in American Psychological Association productions. She has written, directed, and edited her own short films and hopes to continue her passion in film and build her skills in the future.

Megan has helped Urban Gateways kickstart our 60th Anniversary in 2021 with our Birthday Bash in January as well as the first event in our ART & Speaker Series, ART & Storytelling, in February – she did all the editing work on both programs and made them shine (check out the recordings in the links!). She’s also been at work on our 60 for 60 video series (60-second videos presenting Urban Gateways stories and history from the perspectives of our community members); they will premiere on our social media channels at noon the last Friday of each month throughout 2021, with the first video premiering February 26.

Huge thanks to Megan! We’re incredibly grateful that she has contributed her creative talents and ideas to help us celebrate our 60th Anniversary. It wouldn’t have been the same without her, and we will eagerly await what comes next for her in her career; we know it’ll be inspiring. ✨
