Shakespeare All-Stars

The mission of the All-Stars Theatre Company is to inspire, educate, and entertain diverse audiences through performances and workshops.

In addition to presenting plays written and inspired by Shakespeare for the general public, the All-Stars offer fast-paced, interactive touring performances, in-class workshops, and after-school enrichment programs at schools, parks, libraries, special events, and community centers in and around Chicago. Our ensemble enlivens the works of Shakespeare and other great playwrights in a fresh, accessible way by suiting “the action to the word, the word to the action.”

Seeing a need for more accessible Shakespeare productions in Chicago, the Shakespeare All-Stars began bringing Shakespeare to the people at parks, schools, and Farmers Markets in 2010.  They have produced fifteen plays for the public including Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo & Juliet, Comedy of Errors, and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).

The All-Stars have performed all over Chicago and beyond, bringing abridged versions of Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as Shakespeare Shorts!, to diverse audiences. The All-Stars also offer in- and after-school workshops and in-school residences. School and community partners include Disney II Magnet School, Lenart Regional Gifted Academy, Shields Middle School, Westinghouse College Prep, Morton School of Excellence, Brookdale Senior Living, Chase Park Special Rec Program, and Indian Boundary Park to name a few.

For the past three years, the All-Stars have partnered with Ray Graham Training Center High School, a school for youth with disabilities, for a theatre residency in which students learn the fundamentals of acting and the works of Shakespeare.  The program culminates in a student showcase wherein students have the opportunity to share their newfound skills and confidence with their peers and community.

The company is comprised of a diverse group of professionally trained actors, improvisers, poets, dancers, and singers. Each ensemble member brings their unique gifts to our productions and loves to share their passion for theatre and Shakespeare with young people.
