Night Out in the Parks: Energia – Roots of Latin Jazz
September 11, 2016 @ 5:45 pm - 6:25 pm
This is not only your last chance of the summer to see this incredible performance by Contrabanda, but it’s also our last Night Out in the Parks event of the season! Celebrate National Grandparents Day and ring in the new school year at this fun and unique event. Embark on a musical journey that explores how vibrant rhythms of Latin America combined with American jazz to create the lively genre of Latin jazz. Five of Chicago’s most exciting musicians from Contrabanda will trace the roots of jazz music, from traditional African songs to American jazz and rock ‘n roll. Experience how Latin American influences changed the face of jazz and built in layers of rhythms and sounds, creating exciting new melodies and harmonies. This event will get you up and dancing with your family and friends.
This FREE show is presented in partnership with the Chicago Park District as part of its Night Out in the Parks program. All Night Out in the Parks performances are family-friendly, free, open to the public, and will take place outdoors (weather permitting).
