Laura Wesslund

Laura Wesslund is a teaching artist with a specialty in theatre and dance. She’s thrilled to continue working with Urban Gateways, which allows her to share her love of the performing arts with others. Laura has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre from Northwestern University, as well as a Master of Education Degree in Secondary Education from DePaul University. She is licensed to teach secondary Theatre and English. She’s been teaching, directing, choreographing, and performing around Chicagoland and the San Francisco Bay Area for over 10 years. Most recently she taught Theatre at New Trier High School and ChiArts (Chicago High School for the Arts). She has taught and directed students of diverse ages, abilities, and backgrounds at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, Acero High School, and Performing Arts Academy of Marin. Specialty classes have included: rhythmic performance, music theatre dance, tap dance, creative movement, creative drama, and acting. In addition to her teaching career, she has performed as an actor/dancer around Chicagoland and as a performing company member of Be the Groove Rhythmic Performance Ensemble.
