Elements Ballet’s “Elements of Dance” is a production in which company dancers alongside audience participants improvise a short ballet, presenting spontaneous choreography in a way that parallels the uniquely Chicagoan art form of improvised comedy and theatre. This show features an original score by local artist ALEXA GRÆ which combines classical vocals with electronic instrumentation. Encouraging audience participation through onstage dance games and the teaching of a physical “inventory” of movement, “Elements of Dance” inspires in-the-moment creativity and personal validation. By demonstrating how to activate their own physical response to accessible music and easy-to-grasp movement ideas, audience members will learn bravery, risk-taking, and self-acceptance, and discover that everyone has an innate ability to dance and create!
