Tarah Ortiz Durnbaugh

Tarah Durnbaugh has been part of Urban Gateways and the field of Arts Education since 2007. Her arts background spans many disciplines, including a Theatre degree from Northwestern University and over two decades of dance training. Tarah is a proud company member and rehearsal director with the legendary Joel Hall Dancers, and has also been an ensemble member and choreographer with Be the Groove, a Chicago rhythmic performance ensemble, for over a decade. She has more than ten years of experience as a dance instructor and choreographer, and was the founding Artistic Director of the Kaleidoscope Krew youth companies. She has served on the NEA Art Works: Arts Education review panel, is currently a Co-Ambassador for the National Guild for Community Arts Education’s Emerging Leaders Network, and is a proud member of the Community Arts Education Leadership Institute (CAELI) Class of 2018. During her time with Urban Gateways Tarah has worked on many projects and programs, but some of her favorites include “The Children of Willesden Lane” and “Creativity in Motion” student matinee programs, the 2018 Teen Arts Leadership Summit, and the development and launch of Teen Arts Pass. Her passion is making high-quality and inspiring arts experiences accessible to youth and communities throughout the Chicago area.
