John started Redmond Construction Corp in 2013 with $10,000 in capital and a few promising commercial leads, and has since grown the firm to focus on complex interior projects on track to secure more than $70 Million in contracts in 2020. The company has grown to find its niche partnering with the startup and emerging growth businesses that make up Chicago’s vibrant tech community. John’s leadership style and company culture are well-aligned with Chicago’s entrepreneurial world, and building genuine relationships with clients is at the core of the business. John is personally responsible for bringing on notable tech sector clients such as Pinterest, G2 Crowd, Steelbrick, Codeverse, PerkSpot, and Jellyvision along with partnering with some of Chicago’s leading real estate and tenant advisory groups. John got his start as a laborer and carpenter in the field which informed his priorities when developing a team of Superintendents and Project Managers with extensive experience in the downtown market.
John is a perennial sponsor of the Make-A-Wish Illinois I Wish to Party Gala, and is the chair of Redmond Construction Corp’s Building The Next General Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established in 2017 to offer financial assistance to women studying Construction Management at City Colleges of Chicago’s Kennedy King College in Englewood. The first cohort of scholars was announced in early 2019; scholars participate in professional development and networking events with Redmond Construction’s team and industry partners. John hopes this fund will a play a role in making construction careers more accessible to women and create a more welcoming, inclusive environment.
