Danny Howard

Grammy nominated in 2016 for his work with the New Budapest Orpheum Society, a percussionist since a very early age, Danny lived in the United Kingdom playing and teaching professionally until 2008. He then moved to Chicago to further his career and studies. Backing such artists as Pee Wee Ellis and Cathy Dennis in the UK, he has since living in Chicago played regularly with The Opposition Party, ToqueChicago, and Charlie Baron y Grupo Gringo, as well as supporting such bands as Trombone Shorty & the Easy Star All Stars. In 2013, Danny completed a nine-month stint as the primary drummer/percussionist playing for the award-winning “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” at The Royal George Theater. He recently appeared as the percussionist/drummer for Porchlight Theatre’s 12-week run of “In the Heights” written by Lin Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame. He also works as a freelance percussionist with such groups as the Lakeside Singers, Bending Towards the Light, and the William Ferris Chorale. He is currently Artiste in Residance at the University of Chicago with the New Budapest Orpheum Society, an instructor for Columbia College and the Ravinia Jazz Program, and a regular accompanist for modern dance classes at Lou Conte/Hubbard Street, CDI, & Chicago Moving Company.

In addition to his work as a teaching artist, Danny also performs with Urban Gateways touring group Contrabanda.
