Manager of Finance & Administration

MISSION: Urban Gateways engages young people in arts experiences to inspire creativity and impact social change.

Urban Gateways is operating under a Strategic Plan with goals for growth and innovation.  The Manager of Finance & Administration executes the objectives set by the Chief Financial Officer in support of the strategic plan as follows:

  • Implementing and tracking the annual budget
  • Managing and implementing financial processes and related risk controls as determined by the Chief Financial Officer and the Finance Committee, ensuring compliance with FASB and GAAP
  • Implementing and managing business systems related to human resources, bookkeeping, financial audit reporting, project / workflow management, and other projects as assigned

 

This position advances these areas with the following responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Executes all Accounts Payable processing
  • Performs department reconciliations for all revenue streams
  • Provides management reports as requested and prepares materials for Finance Committee meeting
  • Participates in financial forecasting and cash flow management
  • Implements financial policies and procedures in accordance with directives from the Chief Financial Officer
  • Prepares and issues external financial reporting as required to granting / contracting agencies including Chicago Public Schools, Title 1, City of Chicago/DCASE/DFSS/CityArts/etc.
  • Manages the fixed asset inventory and depreciation and supervises the Finance & Administration Coordinator in these tasks

Data Management

  • Generates and updates reports based on specific requests from all departments
  • Supports the gathering of data for external reporting (e.g. Data Arts Survey) as assigned
  • Maintains the financial accounting system and implements updates and changes as needed

Administration Management

  • Manages human resource policies and procedures as assigned
  • Participates in team meetings and task forces as assigned to aid the creation, refinement, and adoption of business systems and internal workflows
  • Manages business insurance coverage
  • Monitors changes to labor standards, laws, and local ordinances to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, minimum of two (2) years experience in non-profit work
  • Accounting software system experience a plus (Sage / Intacct)
  • Highly organized and analytical with a deep understanding of the Organization’s mission and strategies
  • Knowledge of non-profit programs in various settings including school and community-based work
  • Detail-oriented; self-motivated; ability to manage numerous tasks and projects while maintaining positive attitude and demeanor; critical thinking and decision making skills; must be a team player
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Technical proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Apps
  • Strong skills in logistical organization / accuracy is paramount
  • Salesforce experience helpful
  • Background in the arts desirable, but not necessary; passion for the arts essential

 

Additional Salary Information: Salary range $43K to $48K commensurate with experience. Urban Gateways offers paid individual health and dental insurance, and other employee benefits. The administrative staff is located within our program site in West Town. Please be comfortable with an open office floor plan and sharing space with program participants.
