Cha Cha Cha: Latin American Dances

Touring Performance • Dance, Music

Nelson Sosa, longtime Urban Gateways performer with show La Bamba: Latin American Journey, is back with a new performance featuring Paola Sosa. Cha Cha Cha takes the same trip made through Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean, but adds the most valuable ingredient: Latin Dances. This show not only features the artistry and energy of Nelson and Paola, but also makes the audience a part of it all!

The audience learns how Latin dances hail from several different countries and most have influences that range far beyond Latin America. Some dances are easier to learn than others, but all Latin dances have a flair that both spectators and dancers alike adore. In this show the audience participation comes in two different directions. While a group of students learn how to play instruments for Latin Rhythms, another group learns how to dance basic steps of Cumbia, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, Bachata and Polka. The idea is to play and dance while they learn about the countries in Latin America. Students learn where the countries are located, which is their flag, and what are the typical instruments used on each rhythm. The audience will also recognize the importance of other cultures in Latin rhythms, such as African and European.

Testimonials

"The performance was really engaging. The performers were able to incorporate our students and staff into the performance. The purpose of having the performance was to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and the performers did an amazing job of sharing the culture through music, dance and language. We serve students with special needs and the performers were able to put on a performance that was also a learning opportunity for our students without it going over their heads. This performance was a big hit with all of the students and staff!!"

"This by far was the best Urban Gateway sponsored group we have ever had! I can't tell you how uplifting, positive, and happy the music, dancing and personalities were. I will definitely invite them back during the school year.  I give them a 10+!"
