Ella Jenkins and Urban Gateways featured in the New York Times

Unlike her fellow pioneers in arts and science, Ms. Ella Jenkins performs regularly, with a zeal unsurpassed by artists one-third her age.  In February she released “A Life in Song” on Smithsonian Folkways Records, the same label on which she recorded her debut 55 years ago.  And on Friday night she sang for her second favorite audience — adults, many of whom grew up on her records — at a gala for the 50th anniversary of Urban Gateways, the Chicago arts-education organization.

UG Awarded Motorola Foundation Grant for Female-focused Gaming Program

ArtsEd Digest - Chicago's Urban Gateways has received more than $30,000 as part of the Innovation Generation grant program from the Motorola Foundation. Through the grant, Urban Gateways will launch the program Girls Got Game, in which 125 female middle school students in the Chicago area will design and build a fully-operational PC- based computer game. NBC Nightly News w/ Brian Williams - This news segment features MusicianCorps - the national “musical Peace Corps” that was piloted in 2009-10 in four cities nationwide including Chicago. Urban Gateways partnered with MusicianCorps to bring six fellows to Chicago and managed the program locally. The piece features Chicago MusicianCorps fellows Cyndy Fike and Vernon Lloyd, and their students.

Auburn Gresham had an opportunity to work alongside multiple traveling teaching artists. Grace Gachocha, Maia Morgan and Shawn Wallace participated in an exchange program that allowed both artists to share their experiences through a final production entitled "You Feel Me?"
