Artist Statement

Art making for me is a metaphoric weaving of a tapestry with each unique thread representing and bringing together life experiences. There are many sources of inspiration for my art; (1) the nuances and elements as well as colors, textures and shapes found in nature such as shells, pebbles, feathers, shadows, butterflies and etc. (2) the power, purity and purity beauty found in primitive and tribal art; (3) and most recently creating mandalas inspired by seeing these amazing art forms in Bhutan, China, India and Tibet. I’m connected to these sacred forms and incorporate my own information, creativity and spiritual energy into these formats.

The layers I paint and collage are symbols of my life, representing appreciation, love, knowledge, empathy, passion, pain, spirituality, joy and hope. The process of making art is very challenging, centering, peaceful and energizing. Creating art is a tool for centering and harmonizing the flow of creative, mental and spiritual energy. It is my desire that the viewer will receive a sense of pleasure and positive flowing energy from the experience of “looking into the layers” of shapes, colors, butterflies, flowers and other images which communicate as aspect and essence of this vision and soul.
