Educational Philosophy
Each group of learners is unique. They bring with them to the classroom a distinct set of learning styles and personal histories. I work closely with my students and provide them the opportunity to explore areas that are meaningful and relevant to their life and interests.
In my courses, I introduce projects that are idea and concept driven. I urge students to take charge of their own learning. I encourage inquiry and experimentation. This means stepping outside of the familiar and encounters with unexpected. I have found that this process, even though it involves vast amount of risk, leads students to discovery of new ideas and expands their individual aesthetic vocabulary. I motivate my students to critically engage with the works of other artists.
Teaching works organically with my own studio practice. The experience of teaching informs my practice and my practice continues to energize my teaching.
