Artist Bio

Jillian Gryzlak graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005 having completed her BFA in the fiber department. She then started working as a freelance artist, object builder, and costume designer for Spectacle Theater. As a weaver interested in cultural expression through textiles, Jillian traveled to India and Indonesia where she lived and learned from groups of female weavers. Upon returning to Chicago, Jillian started working as a teaching artist with young people in her community. While continuing to make public art with youth around Chicago speaking to issues of social justice, she is pursuing her Maters of Arts at DePaul University researching the idea of common human expression through the medium of textiles. She is also the Art Director for Ag47, an all female arts mentorship program, serving young women in Chicago.
