Salvador Cisneros

Artist Statement

Salvador Cisneros is the artist director of the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council. He graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) with a Masters degree in Education, Physics, and Mathematics. During his 20 years of professional life, he has taught math and fine arts in many elementary schools and high schools.

He has been the artistic director and choreographer for various Mexican folkloric dance groups and for the past 13 years has devoted his time for the children and youth in the Back of the Yards Community. As one of the most prestigious Mexican Folklore Dance Group, the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council (BYNC), has received top recognitions and awards as the best in the Midwest Region.

Salvador’s passion to preserve the traditional dances of Mexico has taken his to research, teach and perform making him a recognized expert in his field. The BYNC Folklore Dance Group has received frequent request to perform in cultural forums and educational institutions in both national and international events.

Educational Philosophy

To promote, preserve, and spread the well-liked traditions of our culture that our ancestors left us, through similar manifestation of the contemporary cultural of today’s society, through the means of a formative interdisciplinary folkloric ballet and dance school.
