SPDW Dance believes that dance is a strong way to communicate ideas and emotions that everyone can understand.
Artist Statement
SPDW Dance is dedicated to presenting the most perfect embodiment of dance- dance that is evocative and enjoyable. We acknowledge that the audience is as important to the dance as the movements and steps themselves. We believe that dance is a reflection of the world around us, and a strong way to communicate ideas and emotions that everyone can understand.
SPDW Dance’s work can show student/teachers/parents how to express themselves through movement. In an increasingly global society, we can’t expect everyone to speak the same language and understand everything we say verbally. Dance puts everyone on a level playing field and let’s each audience member have their own experience, as modern dance can be interpreted in many ways.
Educational Philosophy
SPDW Dance enjoys working in an educational setting to show the importance of human connection. With email, text messaging and phone calls, people can go an entire day without being touched or making eye contact. Dance is important because it’s filled with personal and physical connections that show trust, non-verbal communication and athletic skill. The study of dance is also a disciplined way to build self-esteem and body awareness.
